Learn the art of filmmaking from script to screen!
In this comprehensive workshop, you'll gain practical experience that will help you develop your creative voice and storytelling skills. You'll network with industry experts and like-minded peers, and ultimately be part of a finished film and a newfound confidence in your abilities.
Our 4 day workshop covers:
Day 1: Pre-production - planning, storyboarding, scheduling, and set design
On Day 1, dive into the essential planning stages of filmmaking. Our industry experts will guide you through the critical pre-production process, covering script analysis and interpretation; storyboarding and visualizing your narrative; scheduling and budgeting for efficient production; set design and planning for authentic environments
Day 2 and 3: Production - camera techniques, lighting, sound, directing and set etiquette
On Days 2 and 3, dive into the exciting world of film production! With cameras rolling, you'll learn the technical skills to capture stunning visuals and bring your story to life. Our industry experts will guide you through camera techniques for dynamic storytelling; lighting strategies for mood and atmosphere; sound recording and management for crisp audio; directing and working with actors for authentic performances, as well as creating a set.
Day 4: Post-production – editing, visual effects, sound design and film festival information
On the final day of the Film Makers' Bootcamp, master the art of post-production. Learn how to: edit for emotional resonance and narrative drive; craft a rich soundscape with sound design and foley.
Your facilitators:
- Ryan Neil Butler is an award-winning writer/director with a passion for storytelling. With over a decade of experience as a video editor, honing his craft on television productions, he has a deep understanding of narrative structure and pacing. His work has been recognised with awards from renowned figures like Bill Murray, and his films have screened internationally and nationally including at the Brisbane International Film Festival. Ryan is committed to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers and sharing his knowledge to inspire creative vision.
- Hing Ang is a seasoned commercial photographer and video producer who has worked on several short film productions in the EPK unit shooting and producing "behind the scenes" images, poster images, documentaries and press kits. He is also an emerging cinematographer with credits for 11 short films as the DOP and editor and is exploring how AI is making the art of VFX accessible to low budget indie filmmakers. Hing is passionate about inclusion in the film industry and sharing his knowledge with hands on experience. He has worked as a producer/mentor with Bus Stop Films to create the animated short film "Joie" and has shared his experience in workshops for various disability advocacy groups on the Sunshine Coast and Australia.
- Esther de Schone is a versatile film professional with a passion for visual storytelling. Since entering the industry in 2016, she has expanded her expertise in the Art Department, focusing on production design, prop creation, set dressing and graphics. Esther's credits include Head of Department roles on multiple short films, including the award-winning "The Tipping Point," as well as lead and supporting roles on feature films. As a facilitator, Esther is committed to sharing her knowledge and expertise with emerging filmmakers. She is grateful for the guidance she has received from industry mentors and is dedicated to paying it forward.
